A quiet sort of working day. The Gentleman Friend went into the office for much of the day so I had the flat to myself and later wento to a cafe for the better intenret. The internet in the flat is usually ok for browsing and downloading, but even attaching a 30kb document to an email is beyond its capabilities.
I have finally finished ‘The astrolabe’. It had lingered for a long time, needing only an ending. I finally found one today, referring to the warnings we were given as children to never stay under a tree at nighttime. The reason for this was, if you were my grandfather, that a jinn would possess you. For his rationalist daughter, my mother, it was that trees emit more carbon dioxide at night. In any case, the GF didn’t receive any such warnings so it’s clearly a South Asian thing.
The GF and I have started listening to the audiobook of The Lord of the Rings after dinner. Though I did nap for the end of it, I really enjoyed it, and have read it often enough that I don’t feel I missed anything.
